us

underestimated statements (us), understated symbols (us),
unequivocally stolen (us), universally symbollic (us)

aim for an affluent status to break the stereotypes that surround us
da media don't help us, have ta deal with
da bad hand that life dealt us
police ain't da only ones that hate us
black girls suck teet' an screwface wen they see us
who is it doing black on black violence? just us?
our friends die and we keep silent
guns buss and 6 outta 10 times it's us
da media tells us
it's not only us dat drink smoke an cuss
gladiators like maximus dats us
some love us, some hate us
and some wannabe us
we outta slavery but they still enslave us
we more than slaves but the schools don't school us
companies practice equal opps but at the top there's less of us
cos in small doses is how companies like us
institutionally racist organisations kill us

schools fail us
coons and niggers is what they call us
third class citizens is what they think of us
historians rewrite truth about us
politicians created factions to divide and conquer us
they know that 450 yrs still affects us
repatriation is what they need to give to us
the emancipation proclamation did not emancipate us
commission for racial equality ain't doing nothing for us
ask doreen lawrence if you don't believe us
decades after stephen's death and still nothing's done for us
schools permanently exclude us and leave the streets to clue us
hollywood makes films about us
but don't depict us

i, the black man

after much inner deliberation, i have decided to make this poem my first post it is a poem i wrote after completing an essay on race and gender specifically the black  male. now i do not assume to speak for ALL black men, however, what i write or wrote may resonate with a few. without any more long talk see below:

i, the black man.

i, the Black Man, represents oppressor and oppressed

at the same time,

unable to hide

not heard or seen (at times)

the ultimate cool

an object of fear
a lone figure on a background of white
men, am I a minority, am I angry?
hell yeah...hell no!
a phenomenon
a shepherd and a sheep
enter dialogue with me and see
what I'm feeling, feel what I’m seeing
being a Black Man is not all that I am.
